いつもの大阪駅前第ニビルの会議室で、18時開始の通常例会。
今回はリピーター13名＋初参加の方1名が参加されました。

さて、今回のトピックはこちら。

Topic 1: Have you recently taken a vacation?
1. Have you recently taken a vacation? If so, what did you do?
2. What are your favorite activities that you engage in during extended periods of break?
3. Do you have any plans for the summer?
4. If you were granted a free trip to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Topic 2: How should Japan act in response to the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement?
1. What are some major aspects of the Paris Agreement? Why was the Paris Agreement considered not only a major step in fighting climate issues, but also progress towards true global order? Why has the US withdrawal resulted in such an outcry from other countries?
2. What are some forseeable consequences of the US withdrawal? Can you think of other negative impacts besides fighting global warming?
3. Why do you think the Trump administration acted against the common cause amid near universal opposition? What do you think will happen to the US? Do you think the agreement will still survive?
4. How should Japan act in response to the US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement? How can Japan mitigate the impact of a global agreement sans US? Can Japan benefit in any way?

まずはTopic1について軽くおしゃべり。
皆さん行ってみたいところ、行ったことがあるところがそれぞれで、その違いがおもしろいですね。
日本社会は欧米のように２～３週間まとまったお休みをとる社会ではないので、急にそんな時間を与えられてもどうしてよいのやら…となる人が多いでしょうね。

休憩（と言う名の日本語でのおしゃべり）の後は、全員でひとつのテーブルを囲んでフォーマル？にディスカッション。
今回のトピックは、米国のパリ協定離脱について。

「地球温暖化」自体の真偽を問う声もありましたが、環境問題への世界的な取り組み、というよりも、各国の利益が絡んだ政治的＆経済的な泥仕合的な印象ですね。
米国から中国へリーダーシップを譲渡する（つなぐ？）とか、はたまた日本が米国から真に独立する好機、という見方も。
スケールが大きいトピックで、事前の準備もいつもより必要だったかもしれませんが、取り組みがいのあるトピックだったのではないでしょうか。

フージャーズのディスカッションは、単に「英語で話す」だけでなく、テーブルを囲んだ参加者全員で、よりよい理解や結論にたどり着く為に議論を深めていきたいと考えています。
