TOPIC1. Going on a Trip
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, people hesitate to go out.
In the world after the COVID-19 pandemic, I suppose some of the present
restrictions will exist, such as social distancing, which causing the increase
in the costs of transportation, restaurants, theaters, and else.
The significant part of the increased costs will be charged to us. This
situation will decrease our opportunities for going on a trip, both home
and abroad.
But, forget this, and let’s talk about our experience of a trip.
(1)Please recommend a place in Japan or other countries we should go and
explain the reason.
(2)We experience a lot of things through traveling, enjoyable, impressive,
and, sometimes, disappointing. Please talk about the impressive scene you
saw or experienced on your trip.
(3)Please talk about your disappointing or miserable experience on your
trip.
(4)After the COVID-19 pandemic, what country do you want to go first, and
why?
TOPIC2. “Go to Travel” Campaign
Japan had been attracting tourists from abroad until the outbreak of the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of foreign tourists increased from 2.8 million in 1989 to 31.9
million in 2019, roughly 11 times for 30 years.
This contributed to the growth of Japan’s hospitality industry, including
hotels, restaurants, and transportation.
Thanks to the supports from the Japanese government and the Tokyo Olympic
Games 2020, the hospitality industry anticipated further growth and invested
heavily in the renovation of existing facilities and constructions of new
ones.
But, unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and the strict limitations
were set to prevent people from moving. The Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 has
been postponed.
The tourists have evaporated, leading the hospitality industry to a crisis.
To support the hospitality industry, the Japanese government started the
“Go to Travel” Campaign, a program subsidizing the tourists, in spite of
the opinions against this action from the fear of spreading the COVID-19
pandemic all over Japan.
(1)Now, almost two months have passed since the start of the Campaign.
Did you go on a trip using the subsidy from the program? If you did, could
you present your experience and opinion about the procedure for the application
and tell us how your trip was?
If not, do you have a plan for a trip using the program?
(2)The “Go to Travel” Campaign was very controversial when it was planned.
What was your opinion about this Campaign before its start?
If you have a different opinion based on the present situation of the COVID-19
pandemic, please tell us what made you change your view.
(3)The “Go to Travel” Campaign will end next January. If the hospitality
industry does not recover at the time, do you think this Campaign should
be extended? Besides, please tell us the reasons for your opinion.
(4)Please share your ideas for the recovery of the hospitality industry
from the crisis.
