What measures do you conduct to refrain from “Solitary Death"?

Topic 1: The characteristics of Japanese and its culture

1. What is other significant Japanese culture or art we should boast of to the world besides “One hundred poets, one poem each”?

2. I believe that one of the characteristics of Japanese culture is “formality,” like Japanese poem or “haiku” should be made up in the line of 5-7-5-7-7 katakana syllables. Do not you think this fact is related to other Japanese customs, habits and common practices?

3. It is said that Japanese people are acutely aware of the change of seasons. Do you agree with this idea? What customs in Japan makes you believe this is correct?

4. Japanese society is regarded as “homogeneous society.” Do you think this is a beneficial factor for Japan?

5. Considering the aging population, some people argue that we have no choice but to accept immigrants. Will it do Japan more harm than good or not? Discuss this issue!

Topic2: Solitary death

1. “Solitary death” is much talked about nowadays. What causes these tragedies?

2. Should authorities make efforts to avoid these “solitary death” incidents? What kind of specific measures can they implement?

3. In Japan, a lot of housing complexes are suffering from aging society like the Tokiwadaira Danchi in the article. What ramifications are made by these aged housing complexes?

4. Do you want to die alone? If not, what are you going to do to prevent it? If you have no choice but to live alone in your old age, what measures do you conduct to refrain from “Solitary Death.”
