Juvenile Law

TOPIC 1. Arabian Nights

I am under deep depression around May 16th, the day HIdeki Saijo passed away. I was so depressed ending up with a bizarre idea which is; If I got to meet the Lamp Genie of “Arabian Nights”, I’d ask him “Bring me back to August 24th, 1979”.

It was a night of the legendary concert at Korakuen stadium in the extremely heavy thunderstorm.

This is King Crimson’s “Epitaph”. 100% genuine sound of rain and thunder reminded me of “Work of God”. Greg Lake was one heck of a rock legend, but Hideki was even better at that night. I want to BE there.

Hideki, you are still my No.1 Japanese rock star.

Now, let’s get delusional.

1 If the Lamp Genie makes your dream come true only for once, what would you ask?

2 If you could be anyone in the world for one whole day, who would you want to be and what would you like to do? Past and present, anyone is fine; a rock star, a baseball player, a politician, Elon Musk, or Oda Nobunaga...

3 If you could use a time machine just for once, when would you go and what would you expect to see?

4 You can completely eradicate anything from the world. What do you want to omit?

TOPIC 2. What’s going on?

Many important bills are being passed and administrative reforms are going on behind the corona turmoil. Did you know that? As you know, the Japanese are not very political and we are somewhat allergic to protesting demonstrations and other political movements. Moreover, as we see the Olympic games, our government does not listen to us at all, so we always give up and let it go.

BUT, isn’t it our responsibility to know what is going on in our country? The bottom line is, those reforms ALWAYS lack legislative facts, which means our democracy is in danger.

We will be talking about the juvenile law.

1 The harsher the better?
An idea of Juvenile law is to reform criminal youth, not just punishment. However, if a criminal is 18 or 19 year of age, Things will be different. Why now? Juvenile crimes are NOT increasing.

2 Lost opportunities
Japan had a system that a juvenile prones to commit offense is protected and reformed under supervision of a family court so that some can avoid being a criminal. But, they will lose these rights. It means they are left to be real criminals. Those reforms have been proved to be effective.

3 Media
Media will be able to report the criminals’ names, if he is 18 or 19. What is it for?

4 What should we do?
This kind of changes are being made without legislative facts. Should we go for a political demonstration if we are not sure about those? Or write a letter? Twitter? What should we do?
