Topic 2. Should Politicians Take Pay Cuts?

1. In the Lower House Election held on October 31st, some politicians were newly elected. Although only for 1 day, they were technically a member of Diet in October. Therefore, by a law, 1 million yen was paid for them as "Document, communication, traffic, and accommodation expenses" of that month. Do you think this is fair?

2. An annual salary of a Diet member is about 20 million yen, plus 12 million yen are paid as "Document, communication, traffic and accommodation expenses". Do you think this is too much?

3. What should the compensation system for politicians look like?
